The Market Place enjoyed a busy month, kick starting with the Fleece Fayre on 1 May which was a great success, bringing the community together to celebrate May Day. The day included something for everyone from Maypole dancing, to trying your hand at wool spinning, Punch and Judy and tractor rides in the Abbey Grounds. It was a fun filled family day and the weather was kind. The good news is that this will now be an annual event in the town on May Day. Date for the diary next year is Monday 7th May 2018.
The spring season so far has been prolific with an abundance of beautiful wild flowers, lots of wild life to be spotted and a kind season for lambing and spring rearing. The weekly Charter Market goes from strength to strength and is now a serious food destination in the town with many mouth watering options to grab a bite for lunch and a great place to fill those shopping bags for the weekend. The Monday market has seen a successful return to the town, the community very much enjoying the rejuvenated Monday market. This is growing weekly and includes fruit and veg and a catering van which has started trading on Fridays as well.
The Farmers’ Market is also doing well with a good range of long standing and new producers. The market has adapted its opening hours to 9am to 2.30pm. The extra hour enabling shoppers to enjoy some after lunch food shopping. These hours will be trialled over the summer months.
The new Arts & Crafts market now takes place the first Saturday of the month focusing on local artists and craftspeople. If you are interested in trading, please get in touch, this is the perfect platform to reach out to your local community and show people what you can do!
