Abbey 900

Abbey 900

A festival of events to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Augustinian Abbey of St Mary, in Cirencester.2017.    Although relations between Abbey and townspeople were sometimes difficult as the Abbey was powerful and held sway over everyone’s life, the wealth it brought to the town became the foundation of the economy we enjoy today.

Town Centre Regeneration - Markets

Work commenced on 22 February in the town centre and the Town Council has been working hard to ensure the centre of Cirencester is still open to local residents, businesses and visitors. This includes the continued provision of both the weekly Friday Charter Market and the fortnightly Farmers' Market. From Friday 26 February, the market will be temporarily re-located to the area adjacent to the church, around the war memorial and West Market Place.
