Soroptimist International of Cirencester & District

Are you a woman who wants to make a difference? Do you care about issues that affect women and children?

Every member of Soroptimist International belongs to a Club, somewhere in the world, through which they can take part in organised Programme Activities, including service and practical help for local causes, lobbying government at all levels for change and increasing their awareness of International issues.

Locally members have helped with a range of projects and fundraising events. These include providing essential items at a local women’s refuge, supporting the running of a Nature Quiz in Primary Schools, setting up a Club for deaf children, running and developing a School Literacy Competition, developing links with the local Guiding movement.  In addition, club members have organised a swimathon, which raised funds for a local children’s charity, table top sales and other fund raising events to raise money for local and international charities, together with great social occasions which are always enjoyed by all.

We usually meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at the Royal Agricultural University. The first meeting, 7.15 p.m. for a 7.30 p.m. start covers a mixture of club business and project related activities.  Our second meeting is usually a dinner meeting, 7.30 p.m. for 7.45 p.m. and is an opportunity for us to invite a local speaker to talk on women’s issues, or about a charity that the President specifically wishes to support or a project that is of interest to members.

Whilst we are a very sociable Club, approximately 30 members from a range of backgrounds, we are also a very active group with members who have a range of different skills, which, as we work together enables us to focus on issues that affect women and girls locally and in other parts of the world.  If you live or work in the Cirencester area, please get in touch, we would love to meet up with you to tell you more about what we do.
