Bijou Opera Club
Bijou Opera - Cirencester (& Cheltenham) Now in its 10th year, Bijou Opera is an opera film club that meets periodically to screen great opera performances (plus the occasional ballet and operetta).
The programme for each year is selected by looking for gifted singers who can also act, production values that are true to the intentions of both the librettist and composer, the finest orchestral playing and 'proper' sets and costumes. No competition is intended with the local multiplex cinemas which offer the latest from the Met. and La Scala, because Bijou primarily screens great performances from past decades. All films carry subtitles in English.
All screenings take place on a Sunday afternoon, with the popular option of a traditional Sunday lunch before the performance. A programme is on sale before each event and there is a 15 minute interval when tea / coffee is served at no charge.
