Junior Town Council

We are delighted to announce that Watermoor School, Powell’s School, Chesterton Primary, and Cirencester Primary are participating in this years Junior Town Council initiative.

Appointments have already been made and we have a new Junior Town Mayor and Deputy Mayor from Watermoor School, lead members from Cirencester Primary, Watermoor and Powell’s covering ‘Finance, Future and Fun’, ‘Parks and Green Spaces’, ‘Markets and Events’ and ‘Climate and Recycling’.

We also have aspiring journalists and campaigners from Chesterton and each of the other schools.

In the nomination speech our Junior Town Mayor said: “I would like to be Mayor so we can help and improve the town. I’m always happy, and I always listen and take your ideas so we improve the town. I will promise to make more accessible playgrounds, and have more recycling bins so there’s less litter and more charity events.”

Our Junior Lead Member for Markets and Events said: “ I would like to have the responsibility of markets and events because I want Cirencester to be adored by people from all over. I want to have special events people can make lovely memories and have a great time if they’re visiting or if they live here. I think I would be good for markets and events because I am very creative. I can help solve problems if there is something wrong, which can happen or will happen in Cirencester. I want Cirencester town to be the best it can, making all events great for everyone.”

The Junior Town Councillors are now working towards agreeing their priorities and projects for the year ahead; one thing that the Junior Town Council was unanimous about is the condition of our roads and pavements; they drew some campaign posters for the Leader of the County Council which the CEO of Cirencester Town Council has personally hand delivered on their behalf.
