Launch of No Mow May 2025
You might notice some grassed areas not being mown in May. Your neighbours gardens and some public areas of open space too! No Mow May is when lawns and grassed areas are left uncut until June. This gives early-season pollinators a temporary habitat and food source until more plants grow.
By not mowing, you’re helping the wildlife that’s in its beginning of life. This includes bees, butterflies, beetles, and other pollinators that need access to nectar. Even a small area of uncut grass can make a difference. As well as not mowing, it is recommended to leave garden beds alone too during this time; leaving winter leaves is beneficial to wintering insects and helps to nourish the garden. Whilst we want our gardens and open spaces to look good for the summer, waiting a little longer until June, can be so beneficial to our wildlife and environment.
Areas of open space where we will be reducing the areas where we cut the grass in May are: Abbey Grounds, Amphitheatre, City Bank, Country Park, Four Acres, Two Acres, Whirly Path, Thistle Park, Cranham’s Field and Victoria Road.
