Community Composting

At a recent meeting of our Land and Property Committee, the idea of establishing a community composting scheme was considered. Community Composting has the potential to deliver positive environmental outcomes, including reduced green waste transport, diversion from landfill, local soil improvement, and support for community growing initiatives.

Further to the meeting of the Land and Property Committee, the Town Council will:

  • continue engagement with Garden Organic, including requesting support from a Gloucestershire Master Composter to deliver a local talk or workshop

  • assess interest among allotment holders, community growers, and residents to help identify potential composting champions

  • undertake a high-level review of potential partnership locations (for example education or estate partners)

  • develop a shortlist of scalable and deliverable models, including distributed approaches, pilot schemes, and potential future site-based options

  • engage further with Gloucestershire County Council and the Community Composting Network

  • prepare a follow-up feasibility report setting out delivery options, indicative costs and resource implications
