Cirencester Town Council is proud to host some great festive events for 2019 which showcase our beautiful town with its unique and enticing shopping experience.  Enjoy traditional Christmas events and explore our tastefully restored courtyards and shopping mews, a truly unique retail and dining experience.

Advent Festival - Saturday 30 November

Christmas in Cirencester celebrations always start with the annual Cirencester Advent Festival & Light Switch On which will take place this year on Saturday 30 November. 


The festival starts at 11am with the markets, and reaches a climax at 7pm when a local celebrity flicks the switch and on come our Christmas lights, accompanied by fireworks from the top of the Parish Church in a display by Cotswold Fireworks.

Cirencester Town Council, is delighted to announce that BBC Countryfile’s Ellie Harrison will be switching on the town’s Christmas lights this year. Ellie is President of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, who have been working in partnership with Cirencester Town Council on local green space projects. The full press release is available here.

Road Closures
There will be road closures in place in the town centre from midnight Friday 29 November to midnight Saturday 30 November. The following roads will be subject to closures with signed diversions in place. There will be access for residents affected but deliveries and contractors must be arranged outside the closure times.

  • Dollar Street closed at Thomas Street Junction

  • Cricklade Street closed at Castle Street Junction

  • Castle Street closed at Silver Street Junction

  • Dyer Street closed at North Way Junction

  • Black Jack Street closed at Park Street Junction

  • Coxwell Street closed at Thomas Street Junction
