Climate Change – Our Response
Cirencester Town Council declared a climate emergency in 2019. We know, if we are to make a difference, that change starts with us, as an organisation and as individuals. Also, if we are looking to others to make a difference, we need to lead by example. That is why since 2019 we have challenged ourselves internally. We have started to audit and benchmark our carbon footprint, our purchasing and leasing of vehicles and equipment, our banking arrangements and investments. We have minimised the number of in person meetings and have introduced flexible arrangements for working from home, reducing the need to travel. We are also printing less and using less plastic; thinking more about how we can re-use and recycle. Our open spaces are also important for bio-diversity as well as contributing positively to the climate, this means less manicuring and more appropriate management.
Over the next two years, as part of our Corporate Strategy we want to engage with the wider public to discuss how as a community we can change our behaviour to have a positive impact on the climate, how we can change how we move around, less reliant on the car. Being ecologically sustainable and influencing future development to respond positively to the climate emergency and sustainable building.Cirencester Town Council declared a climate emergency in 2019.
