Wild Meadows Project
Cirencester Town Council is working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to create a range of wild flower meadows across Cirencester, as part of our response to the climate emergency and enhancing bio-diversity within our open spaces.
The Council’s Land and Property Team has been commended for its efforts in managing the meadows which is reaping reward.
City Bank is looking better than ever, and has in the past been resistant to change. At Victoria Road we have lots of ox eye daisies and sorrel flowering with knapweed and musk mallow soon to flower. Kingshill is also in stunning shape – a real explosion of colour and increasing diversity. In the western side, where the pylon is, it is awash with ox eye daisies, birds foot trefoil, kidney vetch and knapweed, with common spotted and southern marsh orchids. The area adjacent to the sports pitches, where the soil is thinner, has dozens of pyramidal and bee orchids. The high nutrient area to the east of the pond is lower in diversity as expected, but less dominated by burdock, dock and thistle than it has been in the past.
