Notices of Motion – What are they?

Councillors can use notices of motion to raise important matters at Council, they don’t shape the policy or strategic direction of the Council as this is something that our Leadership Group does, but they do spark debate and discussion on important matters.

At a recent meeting of the Council, we had three notices of motion and in principle the Council supported creating a Dementia Friendly town, community composting, and a forum for local users of buses.

The detail of these motions is now going to be considered respectively by the Community Services Committee, Land and Property Committee and Planning Committee, who will subsequently make recommendations on the motions to Council.
