CIRENCESTER CHORAL SOCIETY’S ST. JOHN PASSION CONCERT, SAT 8 APRIL 2017
Cirencester Choral Society will be performing J S Bach’s St John Passion at Cirencester Parish Church. First performed in 1724, this is the older of Bach’s two famous Passions, which, through recitatives, arias, chorales and choruses, tell the story of the events leading up to Christ’s crucifixion. It will be sung in English, using the modern translation by Neil Jenkins, and Carleton Etherington will conduct.
The Society is privileged to welcome former Hilliard Ensemble tenor Rogers Covey-Crump to sing the role of Evangelist, for which he is internationally acclaimed. He will be joined by five further professional soloists. Warwick Cole’s highly regarded Corelli Orchestra will provide accompaniment, using period instruments. Tickets £12.50 (Student £6, Child £3) are available from early March from the Visitor Information Centre (Corinium Museum) (01285 654180) or Society members.
