Liz Harding - In Retrospect Exhibition

  • Corinium Museum Park Street Cirencester, GL7 2PP United Kingdom (map)

Liz has been working with stitched textiles for the past forty years and this exhibition will represent work of the past four decades. Originally developing her obsession with cloth and stitch with City & Guilds courses she has continued to develop her practice along with teaching and academic study. Hand stitch and the use of the sewing machine are her tools of choice.

Early themes dealt with the depiction of the human body but more recently the natural world whether it be trees or patterns on stone or the local landscape have changed her focus. The vicinity of the village where she lives, Down Ampney, has given her primary source material. In recent years her work has become more abstract in character as the focus on colour, composition and form take precedence.

Illustrated is a piece from 1990 developed from a newspaper image depicting refugees during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
