Handwoven Coasters on a Frame Loom

  • The New Brewery Arts Centre Brewery Court Cirencester, GL7 1JH. United Kingdom (map)

FOR THOSE AGED 18 AND OVER.

Jade will guide you through this heritage craft process, starting with the language of the loom, a little background to the craft as well as the principles of Fibreshed and the benefits of using local soil to soil fibres. You will be invited to choose your colour palate from a range of British wool, including wool from the Dorset coastline in natural colours, and colourful New Lanarkshire wool, processed at a UNESCO World Heritage mill in Scotland.

You will learn how to make different patterns on the loom which has a rigid heddle for ease of weaving -this also makes it distinct from a tapestry frame loom. You can use the sample coasters as inspiration or you can design your own, geometric, striped on tufted coasters. You will also learn finishing techniques to help ensure the longevity of your handwoven work. Most of all, you can relax and enjoy exploring this mindful craft in a calm environment - and take home two beautiful coasters at the end of the day.
