Big Lunch in The Park

  • Abbey Grounds Cirencester, England, GL7 United Kingdom (map)

The event will acknowledge the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a modern take of wartime slogans such as “Dig for Victory” and “Make Do and Mend,” and will focus on ways to become more sustainable whilst giving the opportunity to celebrate our heritage and history.  We’ll be joined by members of The Living Memory History Association who’ll be bringing along a Jeep, and exhibits & artefacts from the time...Lady She will be recording her Cirencester Radio show live from the event whilst dressed in character.

The Abbey Grounds will be filled with a variety of activities, games and entertainment, including a climbing wall sponsored by LiT Fibre, Chloe’s Farm, a silent disco and live music from local performers. There will also be an artisan market, traditional beer tent, and food and drink stalls; we’re also encouraging everyone to bring their own food and picnics to share with friends. We’re delighted to be joined by a number of local groups promoting sustainability and delivering eco activities and information sharing:

  • Cirencester Clothes Swap will be holding a ‘micro’ clothes swap  - simply bring something that you no longer need or want, and is too good to send to jumble and choose something from their selection that you'd like to take away!

  • Making Place will be joining us, demonstrating ingenious ways to creatively recycle t-shirts and teabags (among other things).

  • Barton Lane Allotments will be holding a plant swap and Cirencester Local Information Centre will in responsible for our jigsaw puzzle swap!

·         The Repair Café & The Cirencester Workbench will be there to publicise their projects.

·         The Cirencester Food Pantry will be talking about ways to reduce food waste and promoting the Grow Your Own initiative delivered in partnership with Cirencester College & Roots and Seeds.

Believe it or not…there’s even more going at the event, but you’ll have to join us to find out what!
