Local councils must prepare a Local Plan that sets out a vision and framework for the future development of their area. A Local Plan is a legal requirement and the starting point for determining planning applications.

Cotswold District Council is updating its adopted Local Plan in light of mandatory government-imposed housing targets. The government now calculates that more than twice the number of homes are needed in the district than the council was previously planning for, which currently equates to a total target of 18,650 additional new homes for the new Local Plan period, which will run up to 2043 and beyond.

The consultation period will run from Friday 14th November 2025 until Friday 2nd January 2026 (11:59pm)

Paper copies of the consultation documents as listed above, will also be available to view at all the libraries in the district and at the District Council offices in Cirencester (Trinity Road, GL7 1PX).
