Cirencester Local Information Centre achieves a Silver Green Tourism Award.
Cirencester Town Council’s Local Information Centre has secured a significant achievement in the Green Tourism awards certification programme with a silver in recognition of the business’s commitment to sustainability. The Green Tourism awards are acknowledged worldwide as an indicator of good environmentally-friendly practice and act as a hallmark of ‘green quality’. By earning a Green Tourism award, businesses are demonstrating they take environmental considerations seriously and are making practical steps to tackle issues such as energy efficiency, water saving and waste reduction.
“Cirencester Local Information Centre have done a fantastic job in achieving the Green Tourism Silver award following on from their first GreenCheck Assessment. They have displayed a good understanding of sustainability and awareness of opportunities and challenges associated with running a responsible business. The areas they are strong in are Experiences, Community, and Health and Wellbeing.” Green Tourism Assessor.
The LIC submitted evidence across multiple criteria including its retail offering which is made up as much as possible, from local suppliers using sustainable materials. For example, craft kits using recycled materials and Craft@LIC where the LIC works with local crafters who are producing eco-friendly items inlcudng cosmetic bags with locally designed fabrics, cards made using vintage fabrics, mosaics using recycled china and eco kitchen scrubbers and soap bags.
The LIC’s highest score was within health and well-being and community focusing on how the information Centre works to promote and support local community initiatives. “We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Green Tourism Silver Award in our very first assessment,” said Judy Mills, Local Information Officer. “It reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team and this recognition motivates us to aim for the Gold Award during our next assessment as we continuously strive to improve and make a lasting positive impact on our environment.”
