Cirencester Choral Society Spring Concert

  • Parish Church Market Place Cirencester, England, United Kingdom (map)

In its concert "The Glories of Parry and Stanford"  Cirencester Choral Society will mark the centenary of the death of Sir Hubert Parry. The programme of choral and organ music will include Parry’s I was Glad and Blest Pair of Sirens and Stanford’s settings of the Te Deum and The Lord is my Shepherd. Parry’s choral music is best known in the context of ceremonial and royal occasions, while Stanford’s principal contribution lives on in the day to day liturgy of the Anglican church.

They are often credited with bringing about a renaissance in English music and having had a profound influence on the musical styles of the next, more illustrious, generation of English composers, including Holst, Vaughan Williams and Elgar. The concert will be conducted by Carleton Etherington with David Whitehead at the organ.

Tickets £12.50 (Student £6, Child £3) available  from the Visitor Information Centre (Corinium Museum) (01285 654180) or Society members
