The health of our town centre is often a topic of debate, particularly when there are changes to local parking, road works and vacant shops. We use a wide range of data to monitor the health of the town centre, this includes car parking, mobile data, visits to the Local Information Centre and footfall through the street markets.

We’re here to connect you to community initiatives that help tackle climate change, fight social inequality and build a sustainable, resilient, future for our town; as part of this initiative we have launched the Climate Hub on our website.

Cirencester Town Council is working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to create a range of wild flower meadows across Cirencester, as part of our response to the climate emergency and enhancing bio-diversity within our open spaces.

Gloucestershire County Council has developed cycling and walking networks and identified some improvements in line with government guidance, which focuses on town centres. More broadly and in anticipation of an increased use of e-bikes, which enable longer journeys up steeper gradients, Gloucestershire want to develop a county wide network of cycling corridors that link the county’s more rural towns and villages.

Following a successful drop-in session and workshop hosted by Accessible Gloucestershire, work has begun on the town centre access audit.

The Town Council is commissioning an access audit of the town centre; we want Cirencester to be a welcoming and accessible place for all.

Gloucestershire County Council are developing Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) for Cirencester, as well as Cam and Dursley. LCWIPs identify local cycling and walking networks, and set out a high-level plan for how these will be improved over time to create safe, connected networks.

Cirencester Town Council has recently been accredited as a Quality Gold council. The Quality Gold Award is evidence based and independently assessed demonstrating that a council is at the forefront of best practice and achieves excellence in governance, community leadership and council development.

Planning permission has been granted for the Abbots Garden and the project is scheduled for completion by 5 September 2021, when it will be dedicated by the Patron of the 2017 Abbey 900 Festival – Rt. Rev. Rachel Treweek, the Bishop of Gloucester.
