This spring’s, and early summer’s exceptionally dry weather has caused the levels in Cirencester’s waterways to drop considerably, affecting both wildlife habitats and the enjoyment of these spaces by residents and visitors.

The Town Council has recently appointed a Leadership Group to advise Council on administrative, policy, strategy and governance matters and to ensure the effectiveness of the Council’s policies and procedures, including matters relating to devolution and the local government review.

A new feeding station has been installed in the Abbey Grounds! It is solar powered so it can be placed entirely off grid and provides education to the public about feeding the ducks.

Whilst progress is being made, the refurbishment is turning out to be more complex than first envisaged and therefore is behind schedule by a number of months, with completion now expected later this year; it has also been challenging securing specialist sub-contractors for some of the works.

Our play spaces are varied and in much need of maintenance and improvement; our Junior Town Council has also identified a need for our play spaces to be accessible to all.

The cost of anti-social behaviour is thousands of pounds each year, from litter and dog fouling, broken glass, vandalism, arson, fly-posting/stickers, and graffiti; it detracts from the day-to-day tasks we want to be undertaking on your behalf in making Cirencester an even better place than it is now.

Further to the stakeholder event held in November 2024 we hoped to publish a draft green spaces strategy by the end of March 2025.

We are delighted to welcome Josser to St Michael’s Park and hope that you’re excited too! Josser will create a new hub of a community from April to September. Cirencester Town Council has submitted the Neighbourhood Plan with its vision statement for the future, to Cotswold District Council for the Reg. 16 public consultation, this is an opportunity to show your support for the wide-range of policies which have been shaped on your behalf by local residents and Town Councillors

We are delighted to announce that Watermoor School, Powell’s School, Chesterton Primary, and Cirencester Primary are participating in this years Junior Town Council initiative.

We have various recreational activities at St Michael’s Park, including crazy golf, pitch n putt, croquet, boules and tennis.

Congratulations to the team at Cirencester Town Council’s LIC who recently were accredited Silver in the South West Tourism Awards.

Our grounds team are responsible for maintaining significant areas of open space and public realm throughout Cirencester.

The Local Information Centre received a record 2,671 visitors in October 2024.

The Cirencester Waterways: Environment and People Symposium was held on June 12th 2024 at the Royal Agricultural University.

In early 2024, the Town Council was required to fell a diseased Beech Tree in Abbey Grounds. To honour the tree’s legacy and connect young people with their local heritage, the Council decided to transform the felled tree into a distinctive natural play feature featuring three animals of local significance: The Hare, the Phoenix, and the Cotswold Lion Sheep.

Cirencester Town Council’s Local Information Centre has secured a significant achievement in the Green Tourism awards certification programme with a silver in recognition of the business’s commitment to sustainability.

At our most recent Junior Town Council meeting, the children established their own political parties we have the Watermoor Warriors, The Uprising Shakers Party ‘Modern Junior Voice’ and Corinium Collaborators.
